Audience and Institution Practice Essay

Asses the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied.

After years and years of making a film, eventually the film has to be marketed. If the film isn’t marketed, then it would be a waste to make the film in the first place. Marketing is very essential for a film’s success. Without marketing, a film is most likely unknown. How would people find out about it and be interested in watching it? It must be marketed for potential viewers to know about it. There is also so much money put into these films, so marketing is a way of getting their money back and potentially making a lot more than what was used.
To begin with, Marketing is important because it brings attention to the film for us people to watch. If films weren’t marketed, there wouldn’t be an effective way to get the film across the world for viewers to see. The more effective the marketing strategy itself is, the more viewers the film will get along with the more money it’ll make. When marketing a movie, many production movies use the same marketing techniques. Starting off with the most used in my opinion, merchandise. For example, the movie “Black Panther” used various sorts of merchandise such as clothes and toys. When marketing, the production company uses their merchandise to target a specific age group or people with the same interests. When a toy is used for marketing, it most likely targets a younger person, but a shirt can be used to target anyone interested. Special events are also used among many production films. One out of the many special events for the movie “Furious 7”, the ride “Fast and Furious-Supercharged” was built in the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. From personal experience, this ride was filled with many people in line waiting to ride it, so it was a successful technique. Cross promotion is also a marketing technique frequently used which is used for partners to expand through each other’s customer base. The movie “Jurassic World” used a few cross promotions. They partnered up with Sony and made a commercial about a behind the scenes sneak peek at the park and how it was produced using Sony technology. Jurassic World also partnered with Lego, Dairy Queen, and the candy Mike and Ike. Using real life interactions is a great way to market a movie and is used worldwide. Overall, all of these different marketing styles are used to promote a film effectively for everyone to enjoy.
Secondly, companies use marketing as a way to make money and profit off of their film. When producing a film, the money made from it is distributed throughout many people who helped somehow in a certain way. For example, some money goes to the box office, investors, producers, etc. So, this makes it essential that the money that is put into making the film, is at least doubled to make any sort of profit off of it. “Beauty and the Beast” made approximately 1.3 billion dollars worldwide and the all-time adjusted ranking is 76 worldwide. With the help of various marketing techniques used all over the world, this movie was a success and they were able to profit a lot off of it. In the article, “How is a cinema’s box office income distributed?”, “In the example above, the investors had their initial money repaid ($30 million) and then received a further $1.8 million, representing a return of 106%,” was said. This is stating that the film industry received a tremendous profit from their movie although traditional investors didn’t. It made the film industry look very good.
In conclusion, marketing is the most important part of producing a movie. It is what makes the money and what gets people to enjoy the film. Various techniques are used to market a film and get It across the world. With this world-wide marketing, it is how money is brought into the film. Altogether, marketing is essential for movies to prosper.

24 extract essay

The extract from 24 is a scene where two characters named Jack and Nina were in an interrogation room and Jack is over using his power and being violent. I feel as if the author is trying to convey the idea that police or anyone in that field abuse their power and tend to get very violent. The author wants the audience to know and feel and know what goes on during interrogations. As shown in many other movies, police usually think that using a scare tactic is a good way to get someone to confess. Police also get angry when the person isn't cooperating and take their anger out on them.  I think the author did a good job at getting his message across. All of the aspects he put together in the movie went good together and shows police abusing power. He used many different elements that helped develop the theme.
In the beginning of the extract, it shows Nina in the main location, an interrogation room, and then it shows Jack opening the door and walking in. The interrogation room is a small room that has no surroundings other than a chair and a table. This ensures that the audience is focused only on the characters. Throughout the whole extract, the lighting is dark. Dark lighting is used to show negativity in movies, it also helped create suspense. After Jack walked in, A suspenseful, high-pitched song was added in. This non-diegetic sound builds more suspense as to what is going to happen and foreshadows that it isn't going to be good.
The next scene that caught my eye was when Nina and Jack were arguing back and forth continuously. This was shown using a shot reverse shot. Even though thy mostly only throughout the extract, this scene was when everything was being explained to the audience. For example we found out why she was being interrogated.  By using a shot reverse shot, this shows the characters reactions when arguing with each other. You can see the anger in jack rising as Nina is talking. Speaking of talking, this scene is when dialogue was used the most. Dialogue is what makes up the movie and helps develop the theme along with their actions.
In the next scene, Jack was shown pushing Nina towards the wall and choking her. Once he started to push her, a split screen was shown on the screen. The split screen was used to show the other detectives running towards the room since Jack was taking his anger out on Nina and was being too rough. Once the other detectives entered the room, an over the shoulder shot was used.   This particular over the shoulder shot caught my attention because the director used it to show Jack choking Nina from behind the other detectives shoulder. This showed the full shot of jack letting his anger off on Nina during the interrogation. Also while Jack was choking Nina, A close up shot was used. The close up shot showed Jack choking her and whispering ruthless things into her ear. This showed the rudeness of police.
I believe the actors intentions were to show the ruthlessness of police and how they don't care how they treat others. The director did a very good job in conveying that theme. His many different elements of the extract did good and all made sense when put together. He was also able to keep focus of the theme and not go off track.

CCR

Now time for my last post, the ccr reflection. The reason for this ccr is to reflect on this whole process we've been through. We were supposed to upload a 12-15 minute video answering certain reflection questions. For the first two questions I talked about comedy conventions and how my movie represents social groups and issues. I also added clips from my movie to justify some of my statements. The next questions are about my product engaging with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? I talked about the movie overall and how it would catch the audiences attention. Alike the first question, I added clips from the movie as well. I also talked about how I would get it out for the world to see. The third question is about my production skills throughout the project. For this question, I reflected on my progress. Not only did I talk about my production skills throughout this task, but I talked about how I've grown throughout this whole school year. For the final question, I talked about how I integrated technologies in this progress. I mentioned all of the websites I used. I also talked about what I used to film and edit. Thats the end of the questions! Despite this world-wide pandemic, I'm glad I was able to finish everything. Due to the pandemic, we were allowed an extension to finish. I had everything finished prior but I took the time to fix everything. This is the end of mu blogging career sadly. Well, this is goodbye!

Movie

This is my final task! This was the third and last video that we had to shoot (not including the CCR). For this task, We had to create the first two minutes of a movie. We were able to choose any genre we would like. My partner and I decided to choose comedy. We did a lot of research on the genre before filming. Unlike the other videos we filmed, this video was not allowed to be shot on school campus. This was somewhat of an obstacle because now we had to find our own time to film. For this video, I decided to use my phone camera and iMovie. Both of those were completely different than what I used for the last two projects. I believe both my editing and filming skills have significantly improved throughout the school year. honestly, there was a few things that got in the way of this whole process. First, it was hard to find time around my schedule. I was very busy with work but I eventually found time. Then, we were hit by a worldwide pandemic which changed many things. This pandemic got in the way of us filming. We weren’t able to get together and finish filming due to social distancing. I decided to just film the ending by myself. I made it work under the circumstances. I think it came out well.

Music video

Above is the second project I've filmed during this school year. For this task, we had to film a music video. We were allowed to film in any setting and use any song we liked. My group and I decided to choose the song 'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry. While I filmed and directed the video, the two others in group and a few friends acted. We came up with an idea to film a day in the life of a teenager. So we all got together and went to the beach to film. We chose the beach because there was a lot of different things to do around that area. I filmed them doing normal things teenagers do at the beach like playing with each other in the water. The sun started to set and it started to get dark. We decided to go get ice cream and I filmed that as well. After ice cream they went to go look at puppies and then eventually they departed ways. I think the song fit well with the movie because the song was basically about teenage dreams. The music video was more like a montage because no one was lip syncing and acting out the lyrics. Not only that, it was a whole bunch of videos put together. I think this video was put together nicely. This was the second and last video I used a school camera and pinnacle studios in. I think I improved with every video I've filmed this year. Like the last video, this video had little to no obstacles in the way. Now onto the next!

Commercial

The video I attached above is a commercial that I shot. This was the first video that I produced this year. When starting this video, I had no idea what to expect. I've never filmed nor edit a video before this. I was hoping that it would be easy and not too difficult. After all, it wasn't too hard. With only a few obstacles in the way, I got it finished in time. This commercial was an ad for Zephyrhills water. Me and my partner came up with the idea of filming a student at practice. During his practice, he got thirsty so he grabbed the water bottle out of his book bag. The actor used many persuasive words to get the audience to try the product. I also decided to use an upbeat song. I chose that particular song so it could catch the audiences attention. I think it was a good addition to the video.  They way I edited the video was so it looked similar to a normal Zephyrhills commercial. I used the same types of titles and format. Zephyrhills commercials also usually use an upbeat song like I did. The way we ended the commercial with a voiceover is also used in their commercials. The actor stated all of the facts and everything about the water.

Re-editing blog

Hey there! I recently finished editing my movie. Editing the rest of the video was easy and straightforward since I already taught myself how to use the software I am currently using. iMovie has been a great software. First I started with sending the scenes to my computer After I sent them and placed them in the order I wanted, I added transitions. I then added all of the titles. I put the titles in different places for each one. I only did the titles that were mandatory. After the titles, I added the music. For the music, we were told to use a royalty free music site. Every time I would find a song that I thought would fit in best with the movie, it would try and make me pay. I finally found one that fit in well and was free. I think the song developed the plot of the movie and gave it more of an exciting movie.  I used a copyright free song from the website www.fesliyanstudios.com. Overall, I believe my movie came out pretty good. I'm proud of myself for doing what I have done under these circumstances.  Well, this is the end of it all. Bye! Nice blogging with you.

re-filming blog

So sadly we are almost at an end with filming our movies. With this worldwide pandemic going on, it has brought many obstacles throughout the ending of this process. Im glad I did part of my movie when I did since I got majority of it done. Last week I finished filming my movie completely. I had my little sister help me film one of the last scenes. I needed her help because I'm not able to meet up with my partner to do so. The rest of the scenes I shot by myself. I set my phone up on a table or I held it myself. I think the scenes I added were a very good addition to the movie. They made the movie end off on a better cliffhanger. It also helped with with the development of the movie because I shot a scene of me grabbing a ski mask. I then filmed myself walking out to the door with it on and then getting into the car. It made sense because the whole beginning of the movie was about planning a robbery. I had fun filming that scene because it was really funny. I stopped filming the movie altogether when I got into the car. This makes the audience watching think about what happened after. Was the robbery successful? Did they get the money? Did they got caught?  The world may never know.

catching up blog

Hey blog it's been a while! So we just got off of spring break and we are still at home. By know, everyone has heard of the coronavirus. This pandemic is ruining everything. Sadly they had to cancel school for a while. This ruins the process of our movies. Since we aren't suppose to leave our houses, this ruins many things. This makes it very hard to finish the rest of our filming. Hopefully sometime soon this week I can re film the part that I need to fix. If not, then I might just have to take it out of my movie all together. So this whole transition from school to online school has been very confusing. We still have no word from Cambridge to let us know if we still have to complete our movie. I'd think we would have to because its not like we haven't started. I'm just hoping all of this work doesn't go to waste. I'm also a little behind on my blogs so I'm going to post more frequently. I also will be filming my CCR soon. I need to get it finished before we find out if we even have to turn it in. There is a state-wide Cambridge meeting on the 7th so we will know everything then. Below is a picture from filming. See you guys in the next blog and everyone stay safe!

Virus editing

Hey blog how is everyone ? Everything’s been crazy lately with the corona virus going around. Its crazy how contagious it is. I was planning on filming this week for re filming blog. I haven’t gotten the chance to because it’s chaos around here.  Instead of doing nothing, I tried to edit a few parts of my movie. I didn’t really do anything except cut a few scenes. I’m waiting for everything to calm down to finish filming. Hopefully we can resume school after break. I’m mad that school got canceled. This class is mostly online anyways so we don’t need to physically be in school to get this stuff done. I’m mostly finished with my movie. I need to finish filming and editing and that’s it. I also need to film my ccr. I’m not completely sure on how i’m going to film it yet. I think i might do a talk show with my sisters help. I’m not creative at all so this might be hard. I’m going to start adding the titles into the movie. It’s the most i can get done at the moment. Well that’s it for today, goodbye.

editing blog

It’s me once again. Wow I feel like i’ve done a million blogs. I’m not sure what number this is but this is my first editing blog. I’ve already done the peer review for half of my project but i’m just going to talk about my editing process. Basically the editing process went very smoothly. Compared to when we used pinnacle studios for the last project, we had less obstacles. We were taught how to use pinnacle studios unlike with iMovie I had to figure it out myself. It was straightforward thought and a good software to use. Using iMovie was very convenient and somewhat easier. I messed up a few times and had to restart editing. When I tried to add a clip in between two it wouldn’t let me. Also some other things that i can’t remember. iMovie made my transitions look very clean. It didn’t make it look butchered together. The picture above is what it looks like when you’re editing on iMovie. The two little arrow icon is how to change your transitions. I think i’m doing good so far because the people who did my peer review said my transition scenes looked very good. I can’t wait to add more to my movie soon. I’m reshooting a few scenes soon ! See you then.

peer review blog

Hey blog! On Tuesday during class we did our peer review. Me and my partner did a peer review on group 1. I think overall, he did a very good job considering the fact that he was in a group by his self. I liked what he chose to do for his movie cause it was relatable. It also seemed interesting which is a huge aspect to our movies.  It was also nothing to crazy and he didn't have to do anything extreme. He did a very good job with filming. He had someone else film for him which made the movie look better than filming on a tripod. He also did a good job on editing. His transitions were mostly smooth, some were a bit choppy. One suggestion I would make to better his film is, reshooting one particular scene. I think he should reshoot a scene because the sound of the wind was very strong. This should be an easy fix because it is only one scene. Other than that, his movie was good. He used a background song throughout the whole intro. I think it was a nice touch and it made the movie look good. He only needs to add all of the titles. See you later!

Non-filming pt 2

Hello blog. For the trifecta, I have also not started blogging again. Of course, I'll get it filmed this weekend. I scheduled off of work this weekend so I'm ready to start filming. I have been really busy lately with a lot of homework so I finished all my homework for this week so I had nothing to worry about for the weekend. I'm not as worried because I know I will get a good amount filmed. We don't need all of it filmed, we just need some so we the group we are peer editing with has something to grade. So today, I texted my sister asking her to order a prop for me. I needed her to order cause she has amazon prime and I needed it by this weekend. So I sent her what I needed and she started laughing really hard cause I sent her a ski mask. I thought it was funny as well cause it was weird that I needed a ski mask. Even though she was skeptical, she ordered it.I wanted a hot pink one but i sadly forgot to mention that so she got black. It'll be here tomorrow! This is why I love amazon prime, it comes so quick. I'm excited to start filming and get this over with. All of the stress is building up for my Aice classes. This one isn't that bad though, the only bad part is me getting it done last minute. After the peer review, i'll be getting the rest finished as soon as possible. Down below is a picture of what I ordered. See you guys in the next ACTUAL filming blog!

Non filming blog

Hey blog. So i haven’t started the blog still. I have been very busy lately with work and school. I have a million tests to take this week and i had a lot of homework. I was also at work all weekend. After work i’m drained from walking around all day and party hosting.  I think some day this week i will start to film at least the first part of my movie. I think i’d be able to start the opening scene even if my partner isn’t available. With the help of my friends we can at least get a few seconds in. I’m not as worried though because I know we will have something before the peer review. I don’t really have any concerns for the filming process. the only thing in a little skeptical about is is making the movie a comedy. I feel as if the pressure is on because it can be difficult to make people laugh. Especially people my age. But we’ve made a few jokes on the storyboard so hopefully everything turns out right. If not then that’s the reason we are doing the peer review. The peer review will be very helpful so we can fix our mistakes and make our movie look very good. I’m also excited to see what group we’ve been paired up with. Other than that, the picture i attached below is me fixing a spring at work. see ya later !

Filming blog (haven’t started)

Hey blog ! I’m back, it’s been a few days. So sadly my partner and I haven’t been able to start filming. We haven’t been able to start because we have both been busy recently. It may be hard to find a time to start filming that is convenient for us both. But don’t worry, we will most definitely get it started soon. The reason we weren’t able to start was because I had work this whole weekend. I was scheduled at times which were hard to plan around. I think next weekend I will either request off one day or just film during a weekday. Whatever would be better for my partner is what I will end up doing. Im glad we have a peer review on Match 3rd. I think it’s a good idea because now we can’t procrastinate, even though we usually don’t. So me and my partner have both decided that we will not be using a camera this time. We both agreed that there’s a lot of extra steps that we could skip if we simply use our phones. Not only that, but we could easily edit at home using Imovie. Also the camera quality will come out a lot better. I’m both excited and nervous to start filming. I hope everything goes well and we both find time to start. Maybe by the next blog we can start talking about the start of our filming experience. Talking about the next blog, see you then.

Title design blog

The google slide attached shows an outline for our title sequence idea for our movie shoot. This will help us during the editing process so we know hoe to make our titles. The google slide helps us by also making whatever is on it accessible on our mobile phones just in case we forget anything. Using google slides was a good idea and it differs from our last project. It helps everything be more organized and is very good if you're on a time crunch. We really like the google slide addition because it has everything available to us wherever we are especially during the editing process. Now that we have our title sequence idea donet, we can trust we have strong idea and plan for our titles. The google slide can also help you guys understand why we put certain fonts and sizes on words. We are excited that we get to start filming soon! See ya in the next blog.

Schedule, Location, Participants, and Health/Safety Blog

The google slide attached shows a schedule/planning idea for our movie shoot. This will help us stay on track and on schedule throughout the filming process. The google slide helps us by also making whatever is on it accessible on our mobile phones just in case we forget anything. Using google slides was a good idea and it differs from our last project. It helps everything be more organized and all planned out. We really like the google slide addition because it was everything lined out for us. Now that we have mostly everything planned out, we can begin shooting. The google slide embeded below includes our schedule, the location, participants, and health/safety. We are excited that we get to start filming soon! See ya in the next blog.

Sound and dialogue script

The attached google slide is the dialogue and sound script for the opening of our movie. It includes the multiple conversations between the main characters and numerous diegetic sounds that are heard by the audience. Making this helps the actors to stay along track and to also be used to produce the movie correctly and orderly. The use of the google slide gives us access to it as long as we have a mobile device or laptop. The google slide also helps show the what scenes are what to the producers and/or actors.  The google slide was easy to make and use and went relatively quicker than a storyboard. It was much more enjoyable and made it much quicker than drawing the scenes. Showing this google slide allows the audience to also see how things are expressed in the actual scenes and what is said and meant. We will begin storyboarding soon though and that’s where we really begin to start the process And after that we will begin filming, have a nice day!

Shooting Script

So today's blog is our shooting script. For our shooting script, we planned it out on google slides. We have a total of 12 slides which include the scenes that will be in our movies.. Each slide has a different scene on it. Today in class, Jeffery and I came up with the shooting script together. We did have a few disagreements about coming up with some parts but we finally agreed on something. We came up with some very good ideas. I think our script is straightforward and I'm excited to see all of this get put together. We also get to start filming soon! See you in the next blog.

Title research: The interview

Title sequence: The Interview

Viewed on: www.artofthetitle.com

Number of titles: 20

Images that are prioritized: Images seen throughout this title sequence are war-like images that appear that they are from an ethnic group different from the main characters. The sequence shows military actions, missiles, and weirdly basketball in it.

Connotations these images carry: The images may hint that the movie has something to do with war or violence between nations. The different race of people goes to show that the main characters may need to stop that race of people from starting a war against their people.

How the genre is reinforced through technical and symbolic codes: Though there is not much in this sequence that resembles comedic features there are a few bits that can hint towards this. The use of a baby and basketball player image can show a bit of off topic-ness which can prove appealing to some as humor. The Hispanic-like music when images that were described are shown is a bit humorous as well.

How the film sets an enigma: It leaves the audience questioning why these images are being shown. Is there a war the movie is based on? Is there a reason such violent images are being shown? Why is there a war in a movie called The Interview?

Strategies used to appeal the targeted audience: Some strategies used to attract their targeted audience is the use of pictures. The pictures can be viewed as graphic for some which can mean their targeted audience is older in age than most other comedies target for.

How technology was used effectively: The use of editing with pictures is genius because it goes to show what the movie will be about or the setting of the movie. Also the sequence has a lot of jump cuts and burn-ins in it. The sequence also uses the editing of sound (music) to lighten or create a mood for the audience.

Title research: Grease

Title sequence: Grease

Viewed on: www.artofthetitle.com

Number of titles: 21

Images that are prioritized: Most images that were prioritized were the characters in animated form, it focused a lot on hair products, cars, characters looking in mirrors, and many images from that time period (70s).

Connotations these images carry: The shown images in the sequence suggest what's to come in the movie. The use of grease for hair in the beginning show that it may play a role in the movie. The use of many images help show the time period for the movie which will justify certain aspects of the movie.

How the genre is reinforced through technical and symbolic codes: The use of funny and cartoon-ish animations make the film seem, so far, that it will be an enjoyable movie. The opening sequence gives you a laugh or two especially the scene where the guy is repairing a car.

How the film sets an enigma: The enigmas set are ones on who the characters will be and how they will impact the film. Also another enigma is the role of hair products since it's shown a lot in the title sequence which can draw questions as to why it is so important.

Strategies used to appeal the targeted audience: Some examples of the filmmakers trying to appeal to their targeted audience is the way many of the characters are dressed, the showing of hair products targets those who regularly use them, the use of 70s propaganda targets those people that lived in the 70s, and the use of cartoon-like animations may have been used to draw in a younger audience.

How technology was used effectively: In the title sequence, they used a form of moving animation which was not used a lot during the time the movie was made and put out into theaters. On top of that the use of tracking shots and low angles were seen a lot during the sequence.

Title research: Are We Done Yet?

Title sequence: Are We Done Yet?

Viewed on: www.watchthetitles.com

Number of titles: 29

Images that are prioritized: Images that are used a lot are cartoon animations of Ice Cube (the main character) and kids. The kids seemingly make fun of him and laugh at him while he fails to fix the title sequence which can hint at what's to come in the movie.

Connotations these images carry: Since I've previously watched the movie, the animations of Ice Cube repairing/fixing the title sequence does indeed hint at what's to come in the movie. It shows humor is the way he plans and carries out repairing a specific object, it doesn't end up being fixed or is made worse, thus leading the kids and audience with a laugh.

How the genre is reinforced through technical and symbolic codes: The background of the title sequence shows moving pictures of floor plans and tools that may hint at the building of a house. The title also hints that the build may take a while. The use of repairing gone wrong can be seen as humorous which is essential for a comedy. The fact that children in the movie are laughing hints and shows that the action that was previously shown was meant to be funny.

How the film sets an enigma: The title sequence gives the audience questions like, who is this character and their importance. Since Ice Cube is shown a lot we know he will be a main character, along with the children. It also sets a question as to why is everything not being fixed successfully in the titles and why is Ice Cube beginning to become tiresome towards the end.

Strategies used to appeal the targeted audience: The use of animation may have been used to draw in a younger audience or a seemingly more childish one. The music used is upbeat and a bit fast which also appeals to younger audiences or those who find this kind of music enjoyable (music is used to draw attention and keep it on the sequence).

How technology was used effectively: The animation used is creative and unique in a title sequence of a movie that has actual actors in it. The editing in the repair and break of the titles helps shows and create a mood for the movie within the first minute of watching. Camera angles used in the sequence are low angles and a couple eye level shots. Camera movements used are tracking shots and a pan shot.

Title research: The King of Comedy

Movie: The king of comedy (1982)
Website: Art of the Title

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
19

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
In the beginning, there was a shot of a lady banging and screaming at the window, then after all the titles were shown, the same shot was shown

3. What connotations do the images carry?
I have not watched this movie so 'm not completely sure what these images were showing.

4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
Genre is reinforced because it is showing a lady with a crazy hairstyle, yell out the window to paparazzi taking photographs of her while she is trying to get them to stop.

5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The title sequence gives the audience questions like who is this lady, why doesn't she want photos taken, what are the photos being taken for, and etc.

6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The strategies used are, since a lot of questions are being raised from this lady's actions, it would make the audience want to finish the movie to answer these questions.

7. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and camera techniques.
There was camera angles such as over the shoulder shot and wide shot used.

Watch the titles

I'm back! So for this blog, I researched this website, Watch the Titles. Like the previous website, Art of the Title, This website is used to research titles in movies. I mean it's even in the website name! When first getting on the website, a movie called Panic Room #18 is the first to pop up. If you click on the picture, it brings you to a separate page which talks about the movie. Watch the Title also shows the beginning titles of movies. If you click the three bars on the left, it shows some options to choose from such as event titles, video games, feature films, etc. Watch the Title and Art of the Title are both similar to each other but they have different movies and Watch the Title has many more options to chose from. This website is very interesting because they even have an option for video games. Along with the video games, there is an option to watch interviews. For example, there is an interview of Kyle Cooper. Kyle Cooper is an American designer known fr his work of creating title sequences for motion pictures. This website has many additions that could help with research. Like always, see you guys in the next blog!

Art of the title

Hey i'm back!! For this blog, we're using this website to research Art of the Title, which is a website used to see the titles and first two minutes of a movie. We're looking at his website to research comedy movies. This website is straightforward and easy to navigate through. When first getting into it, the screen above is displayed. On the home screen, there's two options at the top which are "Title sequences" and "Designers + studios." Title sequences is the option used to look at different movies. When you press on title sequences, it shows many different options such as "Top 10 Title Sequences of 2019." When you click on those options, it gives a brief summary on what it's about. You can choose to look through movies by looking by features such as when it was published or by the name. Designers + studios shows a list of designers and the studios used for these movies. When you click on either a director or a studio, it also gives a brief summary about themselves or about the studio.  This website is used to look at the first two minutes of a movie, which includes titles of the opening sequence. I learned that the very last title is always who the movie is directed by. I also learned about some of the directors who have made some movies we all love. See you guys in the next blog !!

Comedy Movie Research

Film #4: Grown Ups

Camera Angles:
Common camera angles used in this film are wide shots, two shots, aerial shots, and long shots.

Mis En Scene:
In Grown Ups, the costumes and make-up consist of normal items that people would normally wear everyday.  The lighting in this movie is more of a highkey lighting. This makes the film give off a happier vibe or maybe show that it's comedy. There's many different settings ranging from the house they stayed at, to a lake, and a park. Some props include basketballs and everyday used items.

Editing:
Editing techniques in this film included cross cutting, reaction shots, establishing shots, and eyeline match.

Elements In The Film:
This film produces a funny movie with comedic actors. There was jokes going on throughout the whole movie ranging from corny jokes to people actually roasting each other. Not only where there jokes but there was funny scenes.

Sound:
The most common sounds used in Grown Ups were diegetic sounds and ambient sound

Elements I liked:
I liked how the whole movie was put together. I like how the group of childhood friends came together due to a funeral and they ended up having a lot of fun together despite some things that got in their way. I also like how most of the scenes were really funny.

Elements That Did Not Appeal To Me:
Overall, I really like this movie and I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Chosen Film Genre Research

Film #3: Big Fat Liar (Netflix)

Camera Angles:
Common camera angles used in this film are low angles, eye level shots, two shots, and long shots.

Mis En Scene:
The main character, Jason, usually wears what seems ti be baggy clothes like long sleeves and over-sized jackets. Some props used a lot are Jason's phone which he uses to text and get out of certain situations, he has Marty Wolf's phone which he uses to his advantage against Wolf, and Jason's watch. The film is set in Hollywood, California and also has a lot of scenes at Wolf's filming studio.

Editing:
Editing techniques used in this film are split screens, shot/reverse shot, fade outs, and graphic matches.

Elements in the film: The film consists of many enjoyable/laughable moments. The constant practical jokes played on Wolf are hilarious and unique which sets this movie aside from those like Home Alone. The happy ending where Jason wins his parents' trust again and also gets back his film is expected, but pleasurable. Also many other characters find their happy endings as well as when Wolf's downfall occurs.

Sound:
Throughout the film certain sounds like diegetic and non-diegetic, dialogue, score (when the pranks begin and during the pranks), voice overs, and ambient sound are used commonly.

Elements I Liked:
Some elements such as the ending made me enjoy the movie because it made a heroic mood for Jason as he took down Wolf and pathed the way for many others to thrive. Another element I liked was the character development of Jason. Making him a pathological liar helps make the film make more sense and why he wrote the paper about a liar.

Elements That Did Not Appeal To Me:
I did not like the character development of the antagonist, Marty Wolf. The film doesn't explain why his business isn't booming and why he had to steal a child's school paper to keep him afloat. It also doesn't explain why he's such a bully to everyone that works for him.

Comedy Film Research

Film #2: True Members of an International Assassin (Netflix)

Camera Angles:
Some common camera angles used in this movie are eye level shots, long shots, two shots, and over the shoulder shots.

Mis En Scene:
Since the main character, Samuel, works at a business of some sort he wears formal wear to work. Later in the movie he tends to wear a lot of buttoned up long sleeves especially during the climatic part of the movie. Props that are used a lot are Samuel's computer which he uses to write, guns, and Samuel's glasses which he seems to only wear when he's working. The film is set in Atlanta, Georgia and Venezuela.

Editing:
Some editing techniques used commonly in this movie are graphic matches, cross cutting, action matches, and reaction shots.

Elements in the film:
The film produces a funny yet on the edge of your seat mood. The constant jokes make you laugh and make the film appealing, but it's action portion balances the movie out. There wasn't a lot of character development within the film which made most of the characters bland and normal which makes the film more of a "getting to the point rather quickly" type of plot. The movie also ends with a comedic yet sappy happy ending with Samuel's new book becoming a success.

Sound:
Types of sounds used in the film are dialogue, internal diegetic (usually when he writes or is being questioned), ambient sound, score, and a soundtrack (typically used when there is an action scene taking place).

Elements I liked:
The ending which really put the movie into perspective and made it more of a "re-watch" for me. The ending was happy and comedic which really sums up the movie as a whole and the fact Samuel gets the success he deserves makes it ten times more mood lifting.

Elements that did not appeal to me:
The element that did not appeal to me was the lack of character development. Throughout the film the audience is left thinking what makes this specific character this character. It doesn't help the audience understand why they do most of what they do and makes certain parts of the film confusing.

Movie research

Film #1 : The Water Boy (Netflix)

Camera angles:
Some common camera angles used throughout the movie are eye level shots and high angle shots.

Mis En Scene:
The mis en scene used in The Water Boy helps make the film unique. Some common props in the movie are the occasional football, Bobby Boucher's water coolers/cups, and the coaches' whistles. Most of the film is set at a football field or Boucher's house

Editing:
Some common forms of editing used in this movie are jump cuts, cutaways, and montages

Elements in the film:
Some elements conveyed in this movie are a happy ending, a sort of heroic mood as Boucher comes in and sets a new tone for the team he now plays for/gives water to, and sometimes a sympathetic mood is set at various points in the story to help the audience have a better understanding of Boucher as the main character.

Sound:
In this movie, a lot of music is used. For example during football games upbeat yet hardcore music is used to set a tone and when Boucher is having a sympathetic feel to him, melodic like music is played.

Elements I liked:
I love that the movie ended happily benefiting Boucher, his mom, and the team Boucher played for. I also like the heroic mood Boucher sets for his team and all who have drank his water.

Elements That Did not Appeal To Me:
I didn't like that they made Bobby Boucher stutter even though that displays his character as a person. Even though Boucher isn't as mentally developed as everyone else I feel his stutter kind of makes his character vulnerable to more bullying.

Pitch Blog

Hey, it’s me again and this time I’m going to try an narrow down my pitches I stated in my last blog. Out of the three pitches my teammate and I decided on we chose the first and third pitches. These pitches are the the ‘Dangerous Love’ pitch and the ‘Life Gone Wrong’. Dangerous Love is a horror flick while Life Gone Wrong is a more comedic and action packed film. I feel both of which are and can shape up to be great movies if I can film and edit correctly and smoothly. With only being able to film the first two minutes of the movie this proves a challenge. I would have to include a plot, overalls setting, introduce main characters, and give hints and foreshadow into what’s to come. I really love these two ideas because they seem more unique than any other movie out right now. Both of these movies have also seen to spike interests in many countries across the world. Now let’s begin to go a bit deeper into these pitches.
The pitch of ‘Dangerous Love’ is , “A love crazy girl believes she’s met the guy of her dreams, but it quickly proves to be the guy of her nightmares.” This first pitch shows that no matter what you think may be right you always have to be careful. Sometimes the person you least expect is going to be the person who you have to be expected of. The girl named Scarlet always wanted a relationship like the ones in the movies, the crazy encounter and the true love ending. Instead, she found a guy who became obsessed, possessive, and manipulative. When she tries to leave, he stalks her and swears he will do anything to make her his again. While his ambitions turn deadly she must fight to stay alive and when all else fails she may have to do it herself. With no one to aid her and her “loved one” having all the seeming advantages against her what’s she going to do? How will he prevail or will she fall victim like the others before her? Scarlet will show you all of this in this movie.
The pitch for ‘Life Gone Wrong’ is , “Lifelong friends gone broke. Their last resort, robbing a bank. They aren’t the sharpest, but this may play in their favor.” This movie has the potential to be both comedic and action packed and all in all a movie for all to enjoy. The story of two lifelong friends and their road to riches comes crashing down when they realize they’re in debt and behind several months on their rent. Their plan,  robbing a bank for all it’s money. It may sound dumb, it’s because they are dumb, but this may play in their favor somehow. Two idiots, dumb police, and even dumber crew members this has disaster written all over it? How will they do it and most importantly will they get away with it? Rodo and Willis the two main characters were never top of their class, but they may have came up with the best, but unthought i’d plan ever. This movie will leave you wanting more and more and at the edge of your seat. So, why wouldn’t you want to watch a movie that can make you laugh and keep your nerves as a factor?
In the end, my partner and I decided to choose Life Gone Wrong as our pitch to film and make real. Even though we feel this would be a bit of a challenge to work with we feel we’re ready for it. Rodo and Willis seem fit to make a movie out of and the fact that the movie is both action and comedy makes it a double whammy. To begin, I love making people laugh so the script should not be that difficult to write. The difficult part will be storyboarding and editing which I feel very confident and proficient at, on a good day though. I can’t wait to apply my skills in film making to make this pitch reality and making that reality beautiful. I’ve always wanted to make a movie and this will be my first every chance to do so and I plan on doing it in a memorable and fantastic way. I also can not wait for the adventure ahead and see what obstacles are thrown in my way. So again we went the idea of Life Gone Wrong because we feel we have a bit more to use for that movie. Thank you so much for listening and have a nice day!

Start of final task

Heyy I’m back again!! My name is Sage Hertzbach. I attend Fort Lauderdale High School and I’m currently in the Aice media studies class which is the reason I am doing this blog. For this project, my partner is Jeffery. This is going to be the third time I’ve done a project with him for this class. We’ve recently done a commercial and a music video. I think me and jeffery work good together because we get our tasks finished with and we also get good grades on them. We are also both able to get together and film. I’m excited to start this project because it seems interesting. Hopefully we don’t run into any obstacles.
I’ve learned a lot of stuff while being in this class. I learned how to edit and film any shots taken. I’ve also learned a lot of new vocabulary to every type of shot or angle. I’ve used pinnacle studios twice for my past tasks, so now I am very familiar with the application. I know how to use all the options available like cutting or cropping. I’m excited to use my editing skills to edit this movie. I’m not completely sure if I’m going to use pinnacle studios or iMovie for this task. I think the last tasks I’ve done were just warm ups leading up to this task. I’ve progressed in this film process during each task we had to do. I think this final task will be a breeze.
For this task we had to come up with 3 pitches. A pitch is A Hollywood term used to describe an idea where a film is encapsulated in 25 words or less usually with one sentence. For our first pitch, we have “A love crazy girl believes she’s met the guy of her dreams, but it quickly proves to be the guy of her nightmares.” Our second pitch is  “She’s hiding something, something dark. Will she be able to hide it forever or will her luck run out?” The third pitch, “Lifelong friends gone broke. Their last resort, robbing a bank. They aren’t the sharpest, but this may play in their favor.” We’re going towards a horror theme for our movie. See you guys in the next blog !
