Film blog

Hey it's me again! This is another blog about the filming process. So we were given permission to start blogging last week. Once we were given this information, my group and I started planning our times we could get together and film. Since I couldn't film, this blog is suppose to be about me not being able to film. We went through some obstacles trying to find times when we were all available. We realized that last week wasn't a good time to start filming for us. Everyone was busy and couldn't get together.  On Saturday and Sunday I wasn't able to film because I had to go to work throughout the day. By the time i got off work it was dark out and made no sense to go and film.
Not only was I unavailable, my group was also unavailable. One was out of town and the other had plans. We then made plans to go to the beach on Wednesday because none of us were busy during the day. Once we finally made those plans, i seen my work schedule and it said i work on Wednesday. Since i work till around 3:30, we'll be going to the beach after. Hopefully we'll be able to finish filming before it gets dark out. Since it gets dark out very early now, that might interfere with out filming. If we don't finish in the light, we will have to go the beach again on Friday. I'm not sure if we can film on the weekends cause i work again throughout the day. Hopefully everything goes good.
Today in class, I checked out a camera and an SD card. Jeffery also checked out a tripod. We have to return these items as soon as we get back to school on December second. Now that we have all the materials, we are set to film over Thanksgiving break. I'm kind of excited to start filming but i'm also nervous. At least we're filming at the beach, which is a fun place. I hope nothing else goes wrong and it's a smooth process. My group members are also excited to start filming. After we planned this all out, we finally have set plans. That's all I have for you today, see you next time!!

Music video storyboard blog

I’m back !! So this blog is for our story board.A story board is like an outline of how The ideal filming process will go, each box is six seconds of the music video. So for our first slide, we’re coming out of the house and we’ll throw a ball to someone behind the camera. This shot will be a close-up and a zoom in so it will look like we are throwing it at the camera. Then we will do a jump cut to someone catching the ball at the beach and serving in a volleyball game. After the game we’ll all come in for drinks. We will begin to isolate the two main characters which will be a “couple “ they will be having a conversation but it will be in inaudible. This shot won’t be a full close up because we still want it to make it known that the other people are there. The two will then walk down the beach as we do a tracking shot. they’ll stop and the male actor will caress the females cheek and slowly lean in. when the line “we can dance until we die” everyone else will come in and interrupt them. This will go from a close-up to a wide shot. We all discuss about going to get ice cream, and begin the walk (or drive if needed) to the ice cream shop. We all enter the ice cream shop happy and laughing. This will be an establishing shot. The girls go get the table and the boys will go get the ice cream while the girls laugh and talk. This shot will be a normal eye level shot. When the boys come back, we’ll all have a conversation about random things and we’ll all be smiling. This will also be an eye level shot. We head back to the cars and drop everything in the cars as we go to the pet store. This will be another tracking shot. When we get there, all the girls start admiring the puppies. This will be an establishing shot. We find a puppy and have a guy take a picture of all of us. This shot will be a wide shot. In the end, the two leads will be walking back to their cars together and in the end the male will stop the female and we’ll do a face out with their foreheads pressed together. The final shot will be a close up.

Now we're going to talk about where we're going to film and what our backup location is. We've decided to film at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea(Fort Lauderdale beach), it's the ideal area for the scene of our song. We are going to ask permission to make sure we are allowed to film there. The backup location is my backyard because i have a pool. Now its time to talk about health and safety. Our ride to the beach is our parents. They will be there to take us to and from our set location to ensure our safety. There will also be lifeguards there to ensure that we are safe. For our props, we will be bringing volleyballs, beach balls, footballs, etc. The idea of us filming at the beach is for us to have fun and capture it on camera. Now my favorite part of filming, costumes! For costumes Sage will be wearing a bright neon bathing suit with a white cover up, she will also bring clothes such as shorts and a hoodie. I will be wearing a white bathing suit top with acid washed cut off jean shorts. I will also be bringing an over sized sweater. Jeffery will be wearing swimming trunks and he'll bring a jacket also.

music video research

We just finished our commercial for media studies. It was pretty easy but we had some challenges. I learned how to use pinnacle studios and how to use a camera. Pinnacle studios was an easy software to use and helped with the outcome of our commercial. I think this project will be easier because now we have all the equipment that works. We'll also get used to the equipment that is being used.  I'm excited to start working on the music video it seems like fun which we are now starting.
Our song is Teenage Dreams by Katy Perry, it's from the pop genre. During our group discussion we had between Nights Like this by Kehlani and Ty Dolla Sign. We ended up using Teenage Dream because as teenagers we can relate better to it, it's also a great song to get some friends together to drive around and go to the beach with. It'll be kind of like a vlog experience, but of course it's a music video. This song is saying how we feel like we're in a teenage dream being with our friends and the person we like or in a relationship with. This song is a good song for a music video too because the song isn't to hype nor slow. Songs like these make it relatively easy to plan a great music video. The genre of pop is a very unique genre, It has a variety of variations within it. Pop can be almost anything, there’s country pop, Christian (gospel) pop, and so many others. Music videos within this genre are often circled around the theme of the song but every now and then you’ll have a few that won’t make sense to what the song is really saying.
The conventions typically used in this genre are mainly eye level shots, pans, maybe a tilt every now and then, wide shots, and a few low angle shots. The sounds used are the song. There are times when they’ll fade the song out and play the sounds of the event taking place. As for editing, many times depending on the song they will edit it to give it a vintage type of look. Sometimes different types of lighting such as black and white were incorporated. For the costumes we will most likely be dressed normally, or like teenagers. Colorful clothes are worn alot. The most common used sound in it is digetic. There’s also a lot of voice overs used. I‘m very excited to start this music video!

Editing blog

Now that i finished the editing process, i can finally write about how it went. Today we got the chance to start editing on the laptops. when I first got in the class, I signed out a computer, went to my desk, then logged in. Once I logged in I opened up pinnacle studios so I can start the editing process. I put all of the scenes from Google photos onto my desktop, and then I added all of them into a folder so I could import. doing this took up a lot of time because I didn’t really know what I was doing but with the help of a few classmates I got it done. Along with the few classmates that helped me, the notes that I took a few classes ago helped me a lot with the editing process. After I imported the videos, I started to look through them so I could choose which take I like better. Once I choose them, I dragged the scenes and put them into Av track two. Once we had the selected scenes added, the rest of the editing process was pretty easy and went smoothly.
After the scenes I wanted were imported, I started to cut the scenes down. When I thought I had the scenes cut down, I realized that my commercial was at 42 seconds but the maximum time is 30 seconds. I feel like getting it to under 30 seconds was one of the hardest parts because I didn’t want to cut out important scenes from my commercial. I finally got everything cut down and I was at 30 seconds. Cutting the scenes down and getting it under 30 seconds was challenging because I kept on deleting the wrong parts and deleting whole scenes and forgetting to put them back. Not only was this challenging but this was the most important part of the commercial because it had to be at a certain time and it couldn’t go over. I then started to do fade-ins between each scene because the scenes looked choppy and just went from one to another. Once I started doing the transitions between the scenes it all started to come together and finally look good. The transitions completely changed the way the commercial looked. The only thing left to do was add music and the voiceover.
So once I finished editing I started to add the sound. First, I dragged the chosen voiceover and put it into Av track three. I aligned the voiceover with the last scene in the commercial because the actor was just running so I thought it seemed fit for that part. I had to delete the sound from some scenes but I kept the sound and others because the actor was talking. At first I was confused on how to delete the sound but I asked for help and learned how to delete them. After I finished editing the sounds, I felt as if the commercial was still dull, so my partner and I added a song. I chose an upbeat and uplifting song from YouTube, added it to a folder, and then imported into pinnacle Studios. The song was put in the beginning of the commercial and a part of the end, after the voiceover. My partner and I then watched our commercial over and over again to see if we liked everything. Now, next class all I have to do is export the commercial and send it to my class email.
