Editing blog

Hey I'm back! In my previous blog I talked about the filming process I went through for my music video. Now that i have all the footage edited, I can talk about the process of that. So, before class on Tuesday morning, I went to class to dump my footage onto the computer. I made a folder on the desktop and on my google drive just in case anything were to happen. The dumping process went very smoothly unlike last time because I somewhat knew what I was doing this time. We also had actual laptops that worked to do it on now. I finished dumping and then I had to go to class and I'd continue editing the following day. The following day was the day we were actually able to start editing. This process also went pretty smooth.
When i got to class, i got the same computer I imported on to make sure all of my footage was there. Now that i scene that the footage was all there, this is when i technically started to edit. I then opened up pinnacle studios and started to import onto there. My group and I then looked through all of the footage that we shot and chose the ones that we though came out the best. Once we chose them, we dragged them into Av track 2 which is for the footage. Like I said, our music video is more like a montage. A montage is basically a series of photos or videos put together. Since we chose to do a montage, our transitions were not that choppy since we would go from one scene to another. Editing our music video was also fun because some of the scenes we shot were somewhat funny.
After getting everything put together, I added the song to see how it all looked together. Once we heard the song with it, we decided to change a few things up. I didn't like how some of the scenes looked because it just didn't match up. We finally got something we were all happy with. We all watched it over a few times to make sure we liked it and weren't missing anything. We agreed to the final product and then sent it in! We were all pretty proud of ourselves because not only did we finish filming in a reasonable amount of time, editing was a breeze too. I think this was another good learning experience. I'm glad we are finished with our music video. See you guys in the next blog!!

Filming blog

We finally got to film during the break ! After work on Wednesday, I went to Lauderdale By the Sea beach. When i got to the beach, one of my partners was there but we had to wait for my other partner to get there. Once he got there we started to film. Everyone brought their friends to film so we had more people for the music video. I filmed the whole thing while the other people in my group acted. Not only did we get the filming part done, but we had fun while doing it. We got the filming done in a few hours before it got dark out. It was also nice out, it wasn't to hot but it wasn't very cold. Nothing bad got in the way of our filming process.
First, when we started to film we started at the bathrooms. We started at the bathrooms so we could use the pink door so we could open it to the beach. I made it look like we opened a door and then straight after that it was everyone walking. After we left the bathroom, I filmed everyone walking towards the beach. Everyone was talking and laughing to make it look like they were having a good time. Once we got to the beach, I filmed everyone just running towards the water. Then I filmed everyone walking down the beach. I tried to get everyone to go into the water but it was too cold. What I filmed looked mostly like a montage of everyone having fun and running around. I filmed like a montage because the song is about a teenagers dream so I made it look like what a teenage does while they are out with their friends.
When we finished filming what we needed to at the beach, we walked up to all the stores. I chose to film at Lauderdale By the Sea because not only is there the beach, but there's more places to go to get food and other stuff. I filmed everyone laughing and walking up to get ice cream. We went to Sloan's because the scenery is really pretty and it has good ice cream. At this point, i just filmed everyone getting their ice cream and sitting down and enjoying it. After we got ice cream, we went to Diamonds and Doggies. I filmed my partner interacting with the puppies. This music video is basically just everyday life. After this I filmed everyone saying their goodbyes and leaving. Next blog is about editing, so I'll see you there !!

Film blog

Hey it's me again! This is another blog about the filming process. So we were given permission to start blogging last week. Once we were given this information, my group and I started planning our times we could get together and film. Since I couldn't film, this blog is suppose to be about me not being able to film. We went through some obstacles trying to find times when we were all available. We realized that last week wasn't a good time to start filming for us. Everyone was busy and couldn't get together.  On Saturday and Sunday I wasn't able to film because I had to go to work throughout the day. By the time i got off work it was dark out and made no sense to go and film.
Not only was I unavailable, my group was also unavailable. One was out of town and the other had plans. We then made plans to go to the beach on Wednesday because none of us were busy during the day. Once we finally made those plans, i seen my work schedule and it said i work on Wednesday. Since i work till around 3:30, we'll be going to the beach after. Hopefully we'll be able to finish filming before it gets dark out. Since it gets dark out very early now, that might interfere with out filming. If we don't finish in the light, we will have to go the beach again on Friday. I'm not sure if we can film on the weekends cause i work again throughout the day. Hopefully everything goes good.
Today in class, I checked out a camera and an SD card. Jeffery also checked out a tripod. We have to return these items as soon as we get back to school on December second. Now that we have all the materials, we are set to film over Thanksgiving break. I'm kind of excited to start filming but i'm also nervous. At least we're filming at the beach, which is a fun place. I hope nothing else goes wrong and it's a smooth process. My group members are also excited to start filming. After we planned this all out, we finally have set plans. That's all I have for you today, see you next time!!

Music video storyboard blog

I’m back !! So this blog is for our story board.A story board is like an outline of how The ideal filming process will go, each box is six seconds of the music video. So for our first slide, we’re coming out of the house and we’ll throw a ball to someone behind the camera. This shot will be a close-up and a zoom in so it will look like we are throwing it at the camera. Then we will do a jump cut to someone catching the ball at the beach and serving in a volleyball game. After the game we’ll all come in for drinks. We will begin to isolate the two main characters which will be a “couple “ they will be having a conversation but it will be in inaudible. This shot won’t be a full close up because we still want it to make it known that the other people are there. The two will then walk down the beach as we do a tracking shot. they’ll stop and the male actor will caress the females cheek and slowly lean in. when the line “we can dance until we die” everyone else will come in and interrupt them. This will go from a close-up to a wide shot. We all discuss about going to get ice cream, and begin the walk (or drive if needed) to the ice cream shop. We all enter the ice cream shop happy and laughing. This will be an establishing shot. The girls go get the table and the boys will go get the ice cream while the girls laugh and talk. This shot will be a normal eye level shot. When the boys come back, we’ll all have a conversation about random things and we’ll all be smiling. This will also be an eye level shot. We head back to the cars and drop everything in the cars as we go to the pet store. This will be another tracking shot. When we get there, all the girls start admiring the puppies. This will be an establishing shot. We find a puppy and have a guy take a picture of all of us. This shot will be a wide shot. In the end, the two leads will be walking back to their cars together and in the end the male will stop the female and we’ll do a face out with their foreheads pressed together. The final shot will be a close up.

11/19: Planning blog and Storyboard blog (due 11/21)
11/20: No class
11/21: Blogs due
11/22: No class
11/25: Filming Blog #1
11/26: No class
11/27-11/29: Thanksgiving Break
11/27: Filming day
12/2: Filming blog #2
12/4 or 12/5: Editing day
12/6: Music video due at the end of class right to our class
12/10: Turn in music video
Now we're going to talk about where we're going to film and what our backup location is. We've decided to film at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea(Fort Lauderdale beach), it's the ideal area for the scene of our song. We are going to ask permission to make sure we are allowed to film there. The backup location is my backyard because i have a pool. Now its time to talk about health and safety. Our ride to the beach is our parents. They will be there to take us to and from our set location to ensure our safety. There will also be lifeguards there to ensure that we are safe. For our props, we will be bringing volleyballs, beach balls, footballs, etc. The idea of us filming at the beach is for us to have fun and capture it on camera. Now my favorite part of filming, costumes! For costumes Sage will be wearing a bright neon bathing suit with a white cover up, she will also bring clothes such as shorts and a hoodie. I will be wearing a white bathing suit top with acid washed cut off jean shorts. I will also be bringing an over sized sweater. Jeffery will be wearing swimming trunks and he'll bring a jacket also.

music video research

We just finished our commercial for media studies. It was pretty easy but we had some challenges. I learned how to use pinnacle studios and how to use a camera. Pinnacle studios was an easy software to use and helped with the outcome of our commercial. I think this project will be easier because now we have all the equipment that works. We'll also get used to the equipment that is being used.  I'm excited to start working on the music video it seems like fun which we are now starting.
Our song is Teenage Dreams by Katy Perry, it's from the pop genre. During our group discussion we had between Nights Like this by Kehlani and Ty Dolla Sign. We ended up using Teenage Dream because as teenagers we can relate better to it, it's also a great song to get some friends together to drive around and go to the beach with. It'll be kind of like a vlog experience, but of course it's a music video. This song is saying how we feel like we're in a teenage dream being with our friends and the person we like or in a relationship with. This song is a good song for a music video too because the song isn't to hype nor slow. Songs like these make it relatively easy to plan a great music video. The genre of pop is a very unique genre, It has a variety of variations within it. Pop can be almost anything, there’s country pop, Christian (gospel) pop, and so many others. Music videos within this genre are often circled around the theme of the song but every now and then you’ll have a few that won’t make sense to what the song is really saying.
The conventions typically used in this genre are mainly eye level shots, pans, maybe a tilt every now and then, wide shots, and a few low angle shots. The sounds used are the song. There are times when they’ll fade the song out and play the sounds of the event taking place. As for editing, many times depending on the song they will edit it to give it a vintage type of look. Sometimes different types of lighting such as black and white were incorporated. For the costumes we will most likely be dressed normally, or like teenagers. Colorful clothes are worn alot. The most common used sound in it is digetic. There’s also a lot of voice overs used. I‘m very excited to start this music video!

Editing blog

Now that i finished the editing process, i can finally write about how it went. Today we got the chance to start editing on the laptops. when I first got in the class, I signed out a computer, went to my desk, then logged in. Once I logged in I opened up pinnacle studios so I can start the editing process. I put all of the scenes from Google photos onto my desktop, and then I added all of them into a folder so I could import. doing this took up a lot of time because I didn’t really know what I was doing but with the help of a few classmates I got it done. Along with the few classmates that helped me, the notes that I took a few classes ago helped me a lot with the editing process. After I imported the videos, I started to look through them so I could choose which take I like better. Once I choose them, I dragged the scenes and put them into Av track two. Once we had the selected scenes added, the rest of the editing process was pretty easy and went smoothly.
After the scenes I wanted were imported, I started to cut the scenes down. When I thought I had the scenes cut down, I realized that my commercial was at 42 seconds but the maximum time is 30 seconds. I feel like getting it to under 30 seconds was one of the hardest parts because I didn’t want to cut out important scenes from my commercial. I finally got everything cut down and I was at 30 seconds. Cutting the scenes down and getting it under 30 seconds was challenging because I kept on deleting the wrong parts and deleting whole scenes and forgetting to put them back. Not only was this challenging but this was the most important part of the commercial because it had to be at a certain time and it couldn’t go over. I then started to do fade-ins between each scene because the scenes looked choppy and just went from one to another. Once I started doing the transitions between the scenes it all started to come together and finally look good. The transitions completely changed the way the commercial looked. The only thing left to do was add music and the voiceover.
So once I finished editing I started to add the sound. First, I dragged the chosen voiceover and put it into Av track three. I aligned the voiceover with the last scene in the commercial because the actor was just running so I thought it seemed fit for that part. I had to delete the sound from some scenes but I kept the sound and others because the actor was talking. At first I was confused on how to delete the sound but I asked for help and learned how to delete them. After I finished editing the sounds, I felt as if the commercial was still dull, so my partner and I added a song. I chose an upbeat and uplifting song from YouTube, added it to a folder, and then imported into pinnacle Studios. The song was put in the beginning of the commercial and a part of the end, after the voiceover. My partner and I then watched our commercial over and over again to see if we liked everything. Now, next class all I have to do is export the commercial and send it to my class email.

editing the commercial

So, last class we were suppose to edit but many things got in the way of that. When we first got into class, we were told to log onto the computers. I tried logging into the first computer and the mouse wasn’t working and it wouldn’t turn on. When I was logging into the second computer, it was taking forever to log on. After waiting for more than half of the class for the computer to log in, the screen kept turning off. Since the computer wasn’t working, I went in the closet to film my voice over. We did three different takes so we can decide which one we want to use in our commercial. In each take, the words were said differently. I got an SD card reader and finally when I went back to my computer it turned on. I tried transferring my stuff from the SD card but the computer wasn’t working again.
I then realized that our folder with all of our shots was not showing up. It must’ve been from the computer not working. Those were important because that was all of our raw footage for our commercial. My group couldn’t re-film because we didn’t have the props we needed to film it again. I looked all throughout the computer and i still didn’t find it. I asked for the SD card and SD card reader back so I could try and find it. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be there cause a previous group might of deleted it. When i plugged it into the computer and tried looking I still couldn’t find it. I then switched computers so I could at least get the shots from the voice over into a folder. When I made a folder for the voice over, I was looking through the files and I found our shots from last class.
I made a folder for both the voice over and the shots. We couldn’t leave the folder on the computer because the computer I was using didn’t have pinnacle studios. So i logged into my google account and put the folder into google drive. Mrs. Marchionne had to log out of the computer for me because the bell had rung when it was uploading into my drive. So now that it’s in the drive, I have it no matter what computer I use. By the time i put all the footage into the folders, class was over. I wasn’t able to start editing because of all that happened. Today, we were told that we don’t be using these computers cause they aren’t working. We’ll have computers to work on. Hopefully next class we’ll be able to start editing.

Filming blog

Today, i filmed for my zephryhills water commercial.  Before i started filming, I had to sign out a camera, an SD card, and a tripod. Once i got all those, i turned in the papers. After i signed those items out, i waked to the track and started filming. At first i was confused on how to open the tripod so i asked someone for help. I also used the notes i took last class . Setting everything up to start filming was a little hard, but the notes i took were very helpful. I was the director during the filming process. I think everything was straightforward, there was only a few problems. The track was a perfect place to film the commercial because it goes pretty well with needing water.
The only problem with the filming on the track was the amount of people using the track, which kept getting in the way of our filming process. They kept walking very slow in front of our shot and making noise. The lighting worked very well with us, the sun was shining and making our shots look better. While filming, i used high angles, low angles, and eye view angles. I also used the tripod for some shots and i held the camera for others. I made sure i filmed a few different takes, so i had a variety to choose from once i start editing. To film, i brought a zephryhills water bottle which was the main prop for the commercial. The whole commercial was based on zephryhills water. Once we get everything settled, filming went by pretty quick. I finished filming before the time was up so i walked back to class.
Once i got back to class, I had to do the voice over. I used the camera and went into a quiet closet to film it. I wrote about the benefits of drinking zephyrhills water and my actor said it into the camera. I filmed the voice over three times so i can pick which one goes best with the rest of the commercial. I then used a SD card reader to dump my footage into the computer. When i was done with that, i grabbed my paper to sign all the items back in. Overall, the filming process went pretty smoothly. My favorite part of filming was when i got to use the camera and tripod because it seemed professional. I also liked being director because i did not want to be the actor.  I think the filming process was way easier than what i expected.

Editing Lesson Blog

During today’s lesson, we learned about how to edit our footage and use the cameras. To edit our footage, we will be using pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is a software we use to make our film as smooth as we can.  Before dumping the footage from the camera onto the computer, you inject the SD card into the computer. To find the footage, go to DCIM, which the footages are based on date and times. If you can’t find your footage in DCIM, go to “private” and  press on AVCHD, press folder, then stream. Most of the time, your raw footage will be in the DCIM. After dumping your footage into a folder, highlight your clips and then drag into commercial folder. Once all the footage is dumped click on pinnacle studios, click edit screen. If there’s footage already uploaded onto pinnacle studios, go to file then press new movie and it clears everything already there. To import, which is adding the footage from the desktop to pinnacle, press desktop, then press the plus sign, then folder. Click everything that needs to be imported then press start import. Once everything loads, drag the raw footage into Av track two. Av track one is for titles, Av track two is for the film, and Av track three is to add the music. To start editing and splitting up your scenes, you put the play bar where you want it to start, then hit the razor blade. After pressing the razor blade above the arrow, make sure the scene you don’t want is highlighted in orange, then click delete. Once the scenes you don’t want are deleted, you can start adding your transitions and what not. To change the speed of any scene, you’d right click and there’s options to speed it up, slow it down, etc. On the top of the screen, there’s an “open effects editor” option, which is used to add transitions, colors, and different things to make your film more creative. To add a voice over, your click on the track you want to detach the audio to, right click, press detach audio, click the orange box which is the sound u want to get rid of, then delete. To add a title, click “T”, type what you want it to say, press “ok”, let it load, and then move it up to the track you want. To move the title, you would double click on the link. When you’re done with editing all ur content, you upload it. You’d press file, save movie as, then the folder that you’re working on. To turn it it, or export it, you’d press export, make sure it says Mpeg 4 and SD best quality. After making sure it says those, click start export, title it, and save. Make sure everything loads completely so nothing gets deleted. Before exporting, make sure your final product isn’t choppy and it’s smooth. This is called rendering, it also means putting everything together. This should be helpful to do everything the editing process will require.

planning blog : scripts, costumes, props

Today in class we are making our plan for our commercial. My partner and I have to go over many things to use as props, costumes, and make our schedule. We will also need to include our locations in which we film and a backup plan just in case we are unavailable to access any of the things listed. It is crucial to get these things down to ensure a smooth, orderly film process and to also avoid missteps in the process. We will be using the track for filming to represent a thirsty athlete taking a sip of his/her water after he’s finished running.. The runner will wear shorts, a thin shirt, and running shoes. I love the idea of this very much and can't wait to begin filming soon.

Props:
-Zephyrhills water bottle
-Small towel (for sweat)
-Map of Florida

Costume:
-Shorts(white)
-Thin shirt(black)
-Running shoes(black)
-Medium length socks(black)

Schedule:
October 15th- Editing lesson and start our storyboard.
October 21st- CCR Lesson and get approval of our storyboard.
October 23rd- Start filming at track (get most of the commercial, if not all, done.)
October 25th- Get more clips in just in case or finish the filming process. We will also start editing today.
October 29th- Finish editing our commercial (final project)

Location List:
-Track
-Bleachers (near track)

Back-up plan:
In case we can't film on the track we will film in front of building 17 and/or in front of the cafeteria. We will be able to improvise on the costume by being able to switch up colors freely without major consequences. Our schedule is pretty set and can't really be behind it if we wish to have a good commercial with a better grade.no

Research conventions/codes

Zephryhills water commercials are usually constructed of many distinct factors. There's no acting in these commercials, they are mostly made of words on the screen explaining the features of the water with pictures added in. In the commercials, there’s a narrator talking with an upbeat tune playing in the background. The tune is used to make the viewer happy and encourage the viewer to buy the product. The words displayed on the screen are put in nice big colorful fonts. At the end of the commercial, the narrator usually includes nice catchy phrases and includes the companies motto.
During the commercial, the narrator talks about the features of the Zephryhills water. She adds kind words, talking about what type of water it is, 100% spring water, and where the water is from and distributed to. She also adds in words like “Fresh tasting” and “From right here” to persuade the viewer how good the water is. The colors used in the commercial are Blue, orange, white, and yellow because that’s the color used by their company to represent Zephryhills water. They use these colors because they are vibrant and eye catching. In the commercial, they use animations of A sun and people. Graphic match is typically used throughout the commercial.

Introductory

Hi !!! My name is Sage. I would describe myself as a pretty quiet and cool person but my friends say otherwise. I guess i’m quiet until i start to get comfortable around you, then i don’t stop talking. My friends tend to get annoyed because i have so much to talk about even though they are equally as talkative. I like to spend time with my family and my friends. I have 3 sisters, 1 older than me and two younger. I also have a dog! He’s an english pointer and bulldogs mix. We had him since he was a puppy but he’s 3 now. I love being around animals, unless it’s a cat. Cats are boring and i’m allergic so i don’t really like being around them.
I don’t really have any hobbies i live a boring life. I mostly just watch Netflix or i’m out with my friends. One place i really like to go to is the beach. It’s calming and it helps me relax but i also like to go so i can have fun with the people i go with. When i’m older i want to travel and go to Bora Bora or Turks and Caicos cause they’re such beautiful islands. I also hope to go to Thailand because i want to go to an elephant sanctuary and Thailand is also very beautiful but it’s dangerous. My favorite food is chicken wings and fries. I like to go out to eat even though i always get the same thing.
I’m a sophomore at FLHS. The classes i take are AICE global perspectives, AICE media studies, design, Criminal justice 2, Analysis of functions honors, AICE english language, and chemistry honors. I’m passionate about school to an extent. My grades are very good but i also like to take a break from homework so i could have some fun time. I’m planning on graduating with my Cambridge diploma even thought i am in the criminal justice program. I joined the criminal justice program because i’m interested in the criminal justice field. Once i graduate, i plan on going to FIU or the University of Florida  Those colleges would be great for me because they have an amazing forensics program. I want to be an autopsy doctor in the future, when i tell people that they usually think i’m weird but i find it very interesting!
