Editing Lesson Blog

During today’s lesson, we learned about how to edit our footage and use the cameras. To edit our footage, we will be using pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is a software we use to make our film as smooth as we can.  Before dumping the footage from the camera onto the computer, you inject the SD card into the computer. To find the footage, go to DCIM, which the footages are based on date and times. If you can’t find your footage in DCIM, go to “private” and  press on AVCHD, press folder, then stream. Most of the time, your raw footage will be in the DCIM. After dumping your footage into a folder, highlight your clips and then drag into commercial folder. Once all the footage is dumped click on pinnacle studios, click edit screen. If there’s footage already uploaded onto pinnacle studios, go to file then press new movie and it clears everything already there. To import, which is adding the footage from the desktop to pinnacle, press desktop, then press the plus sign, then folder. Click everything that needs to be imported then press start import. Once everything loads, drag the raw footage into Av track two. Av track one is for titles, Av track two is for the film, and Av track three is to add the music. To start editing and splitting up your scenes, you put the play bar where you want it to start, then hit the razor blade. After pressing the razor blade above the arrow, make sure the scene you don’t want is highlighted in orange, then click delete. Once the scenes you don’t want are deleted, you can start adding your transitions and what not. To change the speed of any scene, you’d right click and there’s options to speed it up, slow it down, etc. On the top of the screen, there’s an “open effects editor” option, which is used to add transitions, colors, and different things to make your film more creative. To add a voice over, your click on the track you want to detach the audio to, right click, press detach audio, click the orange box which is the sound u want to get rid of, then delete. To add a title, click “T”, type what you want it to say, press “ok”, let it load, and then move it up to the track you want. To move the title, you would double click on the link. When you’re done with editing all ur content, you upload it. You’d press file, save movie as, then the folder that you’re working on. To turn it it, or export it, you’d press export, make sure it says Mpeg 4 and SD best quality. After making sure it says those, click start export, title it, and save. Make sure everything loads completely so nothing gets deleted. Before exporting, make sure your final product isn’t choppy and it’s smooth. This is called rendering, it also means putting everything together. This should be helpful to do everything the editing process will require.
